Craigslist

Scope and Goals

From our user interviews we uncovered that despite being one of the most popular classified sites in the world, Craigslist has a lot of potential for improvement. The website is mostly used by users to purchase and sell things (specially to buy or rent a property). There are too many similar categories and listings on the website, which detracts from its consistency and quality. Users are unclear of some features on the website like Flag feature. The provided filter does not clarify how it filters the products, and the results are misleading. Users who come across a fraud listing are unable to file a complaint or receive a timely response, which leaves the user upset and unsatisfied.

Design Rationale

By analyzing the user journey and how they accomplish a specific task when using the website, we were able to create specific solutions for the redesign of the website. In order to make the user's task easier, we have incorporated the most natural user flow. Our team really hopes that these changes will bring Craigslist into a new light in front of its users.

Problem

Based on our findings from interviews and usability tests, we discovered that the existing website's interface is outdated and does not follow a design approach that focuses on decreasing the user's cognitive load. We organized and presented the categories in a way that it improves the usability of the website. We also improved the visibility of global search and CTA as per the general website standards.

Design

We collected data from 6 users by asking them their understanding and expectation from the Craigslist website. Afterward, we asked them to recall critical incidents with follow-up questions to gather details about how they can achieve the tasks more efficiently. After that we designed a low and high fidelity prototype.
